The film that I chose was Spider-Man: Far from Home. This is an action, adventure, comedy, and superhero film that stars the main character of Spiderman, whose name is Peter Parker. In the first scene, it shows the company that produced this film, which was Columbia pictures, and shows the statue of the girl in the scene. Then, the film uses a graphic match cut to provide a scene of another statue in the middle of the desert where the actual film starts to take place and transitions into it. The scene then shows a car passing by very fast in front of the statue. It then provides an establishing shot of the setting by showing the large area of land around it. and then provides the name of the area which is Ixtenco, Mexico. It shows the car enter a city that has a lot of debris and looks like a battle recently had happened here. This use of a cut to the ruins shows the contrast in the open space of land, which the car was just in, to the hectic area of land that the car had entered, providing an uneasy effect on the viewer.

After the car arrives in the city, it shows two people leaving it and walking to investigate the area. The scene then transitions to a character landing from the sky and has green smoke emitting from it. It then cuts to behind the two characters and shows a large monster which then breaks buildings and causes destruction. This scene cuts back to the mysterious character and he starts to fight the monster. The cut from the mysterious character to the monster helps show that this character is trying to fight against the evil and provides context to the viewer about the situation going on.

After this scene, the movie then transitions to the traditional Marvel opening that shows all of the characters and comics within the universe and has a heading of "Marvel Studios" appear. There is music that plays and it sounds sentimental. The music continues to play as it transitions into a memorial of previous Marvel characters where it is then revealed to the audience that this is for a film within a high school in the movie. This use of transition of the at first non-diegetic sound to the dietetic sound which the news anchors in the high school announcements video can hear and interpret as a memorial video. This helps create a smooth effect for the viewer to watch as it transitions from the hectic fight scene in the introduction of the film to the morning announcements of a high school, resuilting in the vierwer being to understand what is going on.

During the announcements, the scene then uses a match cut to transition from what the announcements are seen in a fullscreen view is like to an actual TV showing the announcements in the hallways of the high school. This smooth transition after the girl finishes her sentence allows for the viewers to better understand how the announcements in the school works and preserves the continutity of the scene. It shows the crowded hallways of students walking by with the TV at the top of the hallway providing information about the school.

Right after the announcements finish, the guy on the left in the TV screen asks a question of, "Does anyoene even have a plan?" referring to the Avengers possibly not existing anymore resulting in the ability for a similar problem of people disappearing to not be defended against in the future. He says how he hopes nothing crazy happens again as it may create negative effects, which he then follows up with the question. Right after asking the question, it cuts to a scene of the main character, Peter Parker, making a statement of "I have a plan." Peter was referring to a completely different topic about sitting next to a girl he likes named "MJ" on what we assume to be a plane trip. This use of discontinuity editing helps the scene connect two completely unrelated topics by having Peter answer the question the guy asked previously to his friend, Ned. This creates a comedic effect on the viewers as it is connecting two unrelated topics by continuing a question from a person who was not asking Peter anything. This scene can also be classified as paralell editing since it is two things occuring at the same time but in a different spot in the school.
In the final portion of this opening scene, it cuts from Peter and Ned talking to a scene at nighttime of a building. When it shows this scene, you can hear a woman talking, who is revealed to be Peter's aunt named May. This scene is an example of a J-cut because we can hear the audio of her talking before we see her actually talking in the scene. This helps create an establishing shot for the next scene since it first shows the outside of the area they are in and then transitions to the stage that she is talking on smoothly since she is already talking.
The use of editing and transitions throughout this entire opening scene helps establish the situation of what is occurring in the movie while providng context for the viewers. It helps the viewer understand the scene and prepares them for what is going to occur in the rest of the movie.
